Port Douglas Information

Port Douglas, well known for being the gateway town to the rainforest and reef, is situated 1 hour north of cairns. Not only is this small seaside town home to the beautiful 4 Mile Beach, but is also the departure point for a multitude of rainforest tours and reef trips. Accommodation in Port Douglas ranges from your basic backpacker/camper, all the way through to 5 star resorts – with prices to suit every traveller.

Originally established in 1877, Port Douglas was the centre of a gold rush with over 8,000 people calling this little town home; however these numbers soon dwindled to 3,500 when work was redirected to Cairns. Today Port Douglas is a quaint little town, with all major attractions within a 10-15min walk.

Whether you choose to walk down the palm fringed beach, explore the local attractions, take a sunset sail or go on an adventure to the Great Barrier Reef or Daintree Rainforest is up to you, but this laid back town should be number #1 on any travellers itinerary for exploring Tropical North Queensland, and the wonders it has to offer.
